Here we have a fabulous and very rare vintage original LUCAS car inspection lamp in very original vintage condition! This is the early 1920s brass model with nickel plating! The inscription on the lamp reads: J. Lucas LTD PATENT Birmingham. The lamp housing is in a beautiful excellent condition for its age (no cracks in the brass!) with a stupendous vintage patina of almost a century! The nickel plating has grown dull from use and age and it has worn away on most edges. The lamp must have been in the tool-box of a British vintage car for many decades. The lamp is complete with the lamp-cage, hinge, all the screws, the metal winding handle and the black bakelite handle-knob. The original cloth-spun electrical wire has been replaced at some point in time. If we happen to find the correct type of brown cloth-spun wire we will include it with the lamp.
We have included a plug for vintage 6V / 12V dashboard sockets (lamp currently 12 Volt), this plug is supplied loose because you may want to fit crocodile clips instead.
These lamps turn up at auto-jumbles some times, mainly in very poor condition, with cracks and / or missing parts. Others have been over-restored and show highly polished brass. We have NOT restored, NOR polished / cleaned this magnificent Lucas lamp; this unique vintage patina of almost a century is so rare and must be preserved!
This 1920s Lucas inspection lamp will be a fantastic period accessory for your ‘preserved’ vintage Bentley 3-Litre, Speed Six, 8-Litre, Rolls-Royce, Vauxhall, Lanchester, Lagonda, Daimler, Sunbeam, Talbot and any other (British made) vintage machine of the 1920s and 1930s! “Enjoy the Ride!”
