Here we have a fantastic 1960s HELPHOS search lamp / light with windscreen suction mount in EXCELLENT condition! This is the rare black version (most models had a cream white housing). This is the redesigned 1960s model with the 12 Volt cigarette lighter plug. In German the Helphos was named “Das Auto Auge” (The Car Eye) and it was very popular amongst international rally drivers of the period. The Helphos search lamp is mounted to the windscreen with a special suction device which also contains the lense of the lamp. The light beam can be directed in any direction by moving the rear grip on the lamp housing. The on / off switch is neatly placed within ‘thumbs reach’ at the top of the grip. The lamp features a 100 centimetres long wire with a standard 12V cigarette lighter plug at the end. The diameter of the lamp is 12 centimetres and it is also 12 centimetres high. The original box measures 14 x 14 x 15 centimetres. This about 60 years old Helphos search lamp is in LIKE NEW condition in its original box. We could see that the suction cup was used in the past, but is was in good and soft condition. We have given the rubber a ‘rejuvenating’ glycerin bath and now the rubber is preserved with talcum power. The lamp and the suction cup were tested; everything works fine. It is advised to apply some glycerine or vaseline on the suction cup before mounting it on the windshield of your car. This is a highly desirable and very convenient accessory which will become handy in dark conditions during any historic rally or any road trip. “Enjoy the Ride!”
